I am a plein air oil painter that takes on the challenge of capturing the world around me while up against the unpredictable outside environment. I am often found around the Bay Area painting my impression of the city streets with vibrant color and wild brush strokes. However, I also find time to escape the city for road trips and adventure whilst documenting the rural and urban sights I come across with oil paint and equal zest.
My goal is not a perfect likeness (there are cameras and computers for that), but to capture the spirit and energy of the places I go using the power of color and perspective. My motivation comes from the connection I make with the neighborhood while painting. All ages go by on their travels and commutes and are drawn in by my vivid palette and the progression of the work each time they pass. The locals keep me inspired by sharing their stories and colorful history of the location I am painting. In return, I hope to inspire people to take a deeper look at places they pass everyday or just once in a lifetime and enjoy the beauty found in the layers of history around them. Contemplate what has changed in that specific place and what remains the same. My work also serves as a reminder to get out of your head and eyes off media devices, take a deeper look around you to find what is unique and extraordinary. And when day-to-day burdens cannot be escaped, my paintings can transport you to another time and place.
